Mini Origami Treat Box Tutorial plus GIVEAWAY!

On Monday evening I did my second ever Facebook Live over on my Facebook page @Jenfielou.StampinUp to show you how to make the little origami treat box that I made for my OnStage swaps last weekend.

So, did you tune in to the Facebook live? well, despite a few hiccups - like forgetting to turn my paper at a crucial point, and the camera falling down!!, I managed to get through it!  The bananas box on the left is the one created on the live:  

This used the Tutti-Frutti DSP, Tutti-Frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins and the Picture Perfect Birthday Photopolymer Stamp Set - all from our Spring/Summer Occasions catalogue.

There were a few people crafting along which was lovely to hear and it's great to see that their boxes worked wonderfully :) Here is the box made by Jennie:

Today I'm going to show you step by step in pictures, but if you missed it, you can find the live video from Monday at the bottom of this post.

So to make the box itself, you will need a sheet of square Designer Series Paper - this can be any size as long as it is square, and a Bone Folder if you have one. 

For my tutorial I am using 6"x6" Petal Garden Designer Series Paper Stack 

Begin by placing your paper with the patterned side face down, fold your DSP in half each way:

Keeping the patterned side face down, fold the bottom edge to the centre fold, and then the top edge to the centre line - your paper should now be divided into 8 rectangles.  
Next, fold the bottom edge to the top fold line, and the top down to the bottom fold line - you now have four large rectangles in the corners and eight smaller rectangles in the middle of your paper (which can be seen better on the patterned side in the pictures below):

You then need to fold each corner in to meet the second fold lines.  

Flip your DSP over so the patterned side is face up and rotate 90degrees so that your fold lines are VERTICAL! (this was the step I missed in my first attempt Live! oops!)

Fold both the top and bottom edges to the middle crease, then fold these flaps back out to the outer edge, folding them in half back on themselves.

Lift the flaps, open out the diagonal edges and push down to make rectangles, press flat.  

Flip your paper back over, and bring the edges you've just folded out from the underside.  Fold these new outer edges in to the centre crease, thereby folding the middle sections in half:

At this point, you need to raise these flaps up - they will create the sides of your box. Turn your paper so that you can pinch both sides and scoop the lid of your box up, flatten down on these creases. Pinch across the crease to fold the lid over your box.  Do the same on the other side.

To close your box, you will see two small triangles on the under side of the lid flaps, slide one side into these triangles of the other - you may need to gently wiggle to get the lid fully inside.

Congratulations, you have made an origami treat box!  You can leave your box as it is, or you can decorate with a ribbon, gift tag, or a belly band as I have done.  

To do the belly band for this box, I took another sheet of the same DSP and cut a 1inch strip off one edge.  I loosely wrapped this around the box with the non patterned side facing out, I stuck the ends together using Tear & Tape Adhesive.  

I then covered the join using the little bird from the Petal Palette Bundle stamped in Rich Razzleberry and cut out using the co-ordinating framelit dies from the bundle and adhered with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. I added another die cut element from the set and a couple of metal Petal Passion Embellishments adhered using Mini Glue Dots.
